From the time I was just a baby,
Sitting on your knees,
To the time that I was grown and gone
And no longer climbing trees.

You loved me and you cared for me
No matter how you felt.
No matter what I said to you,
No matter what life you were dealt.

Now that I am grown and gone
And have children of my own.
I know the feeling that you get
When you're left there all alone.

You feel that all the care and hope
You invested in your child
Was somehow, all for nothing,
As they go off in the wild.

I've learned these things in my years;
That life's not always kind,
But the investments you make in your children
Will, come back to you, in time.

The things you taught me, growing up,
And the kind words you had to say,
Has helped me to be a successful parent
In a loving and caring way.

You are always in my heart
